Abstract | EIS sofware is supposed to offer a more comprehensive and thorough analysis of data than does the usual on-line proccessing software. It has become known as Business Analysis Software, Business Intelligence Software, and On-line Analysis Processing. EIS software products can be (according to their degree of sophistication) categorized into: Query and Reporting (Q & R) capabilites, a Decision Support System (DSS), a true EIS software software. A truc EIS software must provide for an analysis of end-user needs, the celection of appropriate software tools, the collection (and administration) of data needed to satisfy end-user needs, a proper data utilisation. The analysis of needs and selection of appropriatc software tools must be done by the end-user and by the computer professional together. Is the most important part of the story and is the professional's domain: data provision, integrity and security, adaptation of data (also from outside sources!) to uniform standards, selection, aggregation, distribution of data, etc. Is (after successfull implementation of the software) the end-user's domain. EIS does undoubtedly offer (through it's 'management by exception') the top management a permanent and comprehensive overview of the business system. Besides, as we have learnt during it's implementation, it does also very well direct the development of the company's integral information system, and helps a great deal in removing discrepancies in data collection, processing, and forwarding between various company's departments. | |
