Abstract     It is estimated that 20 to 30% of variability in drug response in terms of efficacy and occurrence of adverse events is attributed to genetic variability in metabolic enzymes, transporters and drug targets. Various pharmacogenetic studies have already been performed and pharmacogenetic recommendations for 112 gene-drug pairs have already been proposed based on their results. The majority of studies have evaluated individual gene-drug pairs, but lately prospective studies based on preemptive pharmacogenetic testing have been undertaken. A part of such study named PREPARE is currently ongoing in Slovenia. There are 13 pharmacogenes with 48 genetic variants and 40 index drugs included in the study. The main goal of this study is to explore whether treatment according to the pharmacogenetic guidelines is safer, financially more efficient and increases the quality of patient's life more compared to the treatment according to the regular guidelines.
