Abstract		Background. The educational process of diabetic patients and their parents begins at the first admission to the hospital when the diagnosis of diabetes is confirmed. It continues at regular visits to the outpatient clinics, at the meetings of the club of parents of young diabetic, by Sladkorčki, a bulletin for diabetic children and adolescents and at a summer camps at the Adriatic coast. Conclusions. By education a better knowledge of the disease and self-managment can be achieved and therefore better metabolic control that reduces the risks for development of acute and chronic complications.
Summary		Izhodišča. Zdravstvena vzgoja otrok in mladostnikov z insulinsko odvisno sladkorno boleznijo poteka neprekinjeno od odkritja bolezni v šoli za diabetike, ob rednih ambulantnih kontrolnih pregledih, v okviru sestankov Kluba staršev otrok s sladkorno boleznijo in njihovega glasila Sladkorčki ter v času poletne kolonije. Zaključki. S poglobljenim znanjem o bolezni in samokontroli želimo doseči čim boljšo presnovno urejenost in zmanjšati število akutnih in kasnih zapletov sladkorne bolezni.
