Abstract     Patellar instability with recurrent dislocation prevents most patients from returning to regular physical and sports activities. For acute pattelar dislocation, conservative treatment is mainly the first choice of treatment. However, the redislocation rate is high. Anatomical and biomechanical studies show that the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is the primary restraint to lateral patellar translation between 0 and 30° of knee flexion. Patellar stabilization with MPFL reconstruction is a successful treatment option for patellar instability. It is a mini-invasive surgical procedure associated with low postoperative complications.
