Abstract     Background: Young adults are increasingly exposed to events leading to distress. Some of them face difficult situations ineffectively, which is reflected in physical and mental health. The sense of coherence is an important source of distress management. Aim and objective: Aiming at collecting and analysing available scientific literature on relationship between the sense of coherence and self-assessed health in young adults, the objectives of this review were to explore how this topic has already been researched. Methods: Articles were searched by PubMed/Medline, PubMed Central and COBISS bibliographic databases with keywords: 'sense of coherence', 'young adults', 'students', 'health', 'stress', 'psychological problems'. The search was limited to Slovenian and English language. Exclusion criteria were the average age of the sample under 18 and over 35 years, the presence of chronic disease, content that did not relate to the association of the sense of coherence with health and methodological tools without the SoC-13 or SoC-29 questionnaire. Results: 22 articles were relevant. The feeling of coherence has been significantly associated with self-assessment of health, with overcoming stress, experiencing quality of life and is thus an important indicator of health and health-related habits. According to the results, the sense of coherence could be strengthened by social support, physical activity, self-confidence and an optimistic view of the world. Conclusion: The sense of coherence is an important explanatory factor of self-reported health. It could serve as a good starting point and an important foundation for the introduction of measures for maintaining and/or enhancing health, especially mental health.
