Abstract		Hydrocephalus is caused by cerebrospinal fluid stagnation in the ventricular system. Its treatment is mostly surgical and in- volves the insertion of a shunt (in most cases, ventriculoper- itoneal or ventriculoatrial drainage) or endoscopic third ven- triculostomy. This article describes the surgical treatment of hydrocephalus, the indications for shunting the ventricles, and the techniques used. We also focus on surgical complications. In addition, we briefly describe our treatment results.
