Abstract     It is known that some quaternary ammonium compounds interact with different regions of the active surface in the gorge of acetylcholinesterase. In order to obtain additional information on eserineacetylcholinesterase interaction, the time course of the residual activity of acetylcholinesterase after various incubation times with eserine in the presence of decamethonium was followed. The evaluation of relevant rate constants by non-linear least square fitting, using numerical integration method, suggested that decamethonium has a strong stabilizing effect on the carbamoylated enzyme. The effect is achieved by increasing the rate of carbamoylation and decreasing the rate of decarbamoylation. A corresponding kinetic scheme is proposed.
