Abstract | An instance of inappropriate therapy resulting from faulty diagnosis is presented. The patient required diagnostic evaluation and general care of the oral cavity, endodontic treatment of a mandibular second premolar, endodontic treatment of a mandibular first molar, to be followed by partial extraction of its mesial root in case of failure, and finally endodontic treatment of a mandibular third molar. Instead of trying to salvage the diseased teeth, the therapist extracted the mandibular first molar and planned to extract in further sessions also the second premolar and the third molar, which would cause unilateral shorteining of the dental arch. The appropriate management if this case is illustrated in figures 1-4. | |
