Abstract		Various applications of computerized tomography in dentistry are discussed. The method has proved particularly valuable for the planning of implant procedures, as it provides more accurate information on the quality and quantity of alveolar bone than conventional x-ray techniques. It is also a useful tool in diagnostic assessment of periodontal disease and planning of periodontal surgery. The main disadvantage of computerized tomography is that it exposes the patient to greater amounts of radiation than conventional x-ray. Therefore its use should be limited to carefully selected patients.
