Abstract		Quality assurance and audit gained their place in medicine with the purpose to supply as good service as possible in the circumstances of constrained economical and human resources. The proportion of elderly people is increasing in western countries, this has led to an increase of the number of vascular procedures performed. With the purpose to establish the work-load of vasculac procedures and to guarantee better results of them, several registries of vascular surgery have been initiated. Some of them are limited to single institutions, some of them are regional. In some countries national vascular registries are already recording vascular procedures. Theoretical basis of the system of quality assurance and control are discussed. The experiences of different forms of registering the vascular procedures in general hospital Novo mesto has led to an idea introducing of Slovenene vascular surgery registry - Slovasc. The possible future benefits of the registry for the further development of vascular surgery in Slovenia are discussed.
