Abstract     During the 1985-194 208 patients were analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups. The indication for operation was critical chronical ischaemia. There were 112 patients in the first group, where TEA of the iliac artery was performed. There were 96 patients in the second group where graft was used. Primary patency rate in the first five years was 82% for the first group and 86,2% for the second group. For the same period limb salvage rate was 78% for the first group and 76,5% for the second group. There were no statistically significant differences between groups. It is concluded that TEA is a safe procedure with good long term results and should be considered as the procedure of choice when first operation is planned in the aortoiliac region.
