Abstract | Due to the considerable decrease in natality in Slovenia after 1980 (the number of births per year dropped from over 30,000 to less then 20,000) a distinctive process of aging of the population has begun in Slovenia. Developments in medicine and better medical care of the population have significantly increased life expectancy which are contributing factors to the growth of this sector. A strong influx in the population was typical for Slovenia in the seventies and eighties, which strongly increased the numbers of certain age groups, and will also contribute to a faster aging of the population after the year 2000. | |
