Abstract     Arterial hypertension is one of the major health problems in the Western world, affecting up to 25 percent of the total population. Renovascular hypertension affects approximately 1 percent of the total hypertensive population. Surgery or percutaneous transluminal angioplasty may cure or ameliorate renovascular hypertension and restore or preserve renal function in patient with renovascular hypertension. Number of tests aimed at diagnosing renovascular hypertension are known. Anatomic/diagnostic imaging tests (duplex doppler sonography, magnetic resonance imaging and arteriography) and functional diagnostic tests (intravenous urography, plasma renin tests and isotope renography) are used. Author presents the possibilities and liminations of these tests.
