Abstract     Psysical mixtures and solvent deposits of auranofin onto lactose were prepared to improve its low solubility and dissolution rate. DSC studies showed that simple mixing of auranofin with a carrier does not change the crystalline state of auranofin. The crystallinity of auranofin is decreased in solvent deposits, specially in those including polyvinylipyrrolidone as a crystal growth retardant. Benzyl alcohol, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and acetone, pure or in mixtures, were used as solvents in solvent deposit preparation. Slovent evaporation rates from the granules thus prepared were found to be significantly different; the resultant deposits, however, do not significantly differ in the dissolution behaviour, but they all dissolve faster than a physical mixture or pure auranofin.
