Abstract     Video-assisted thoracoscopy has secured itself a firm place in thoracic surgery. From November 11. 1993 to December 31, 1995, we performed 89 vidoe-assisted thoracoscopi interventions in 86 patients, in 13 of them for mediastinal tumours. Diagnostic thoracoscopy was performed in 2 patients and therapeutic thoracoscopic resection in 11. There were 7 females and 6 males, their mean age being 51 years (range 36-71 years). A change of treatment modality was required in one patient. In our series, the length of chest tube drainage was 2 do 8 days, the mean hospitalization time was 7.3 days. Patients treated by video-assisted thoracoscopic procedures had reduced postoperative pain, days. Patients treated by video-assisted thoracoscopic procedures had reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and low morbiditidy. None of them died.
