Abstract     The complications of herpes zoster and antiviral treatment of herpes zoster in immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients are presented. Indications for treatment with antiviral agents are suggested and the mode of treatment with acyclovir and some newer antiviral agents is recommended. season related, corresponding to the etiologic factors. The data from this study suggest that infectious limphadenopathy in children is at most a benign disease of diverse etiology generally subject to spontaneous remission without subsequent morbidity. Varicella is a common childhood infection manifested by mild systemic symptoms, a characteristic rash and fever. Usually it is benign and self limited . Although varicella is thought to be a mild disease, reported complications include bacterial infections, neurological involvement, Reye's syndrome, coagulation defects and some other involvements. The authors give a review of the most frequent bacterial infections accompanying varicella and make a brief report on their experience with 48 varicella patients with different bacterial infections. The majority were lesions of the skin and soft tissues. respiratory tract infections and otitis media. Etiology and therapy are emphasised. The complications of herpes zoster and antiviral treatment of herpes zoster in immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients are presented. Indications for treatment with antiviral agents are suggested and the mode of treatment with acyclovir and some newer antiviral agents is recommended.
