Abstract | The continuous administration of amphetamine to rats by subcutaneously implanted osmotic minipumps induced an intense dopaminergic stereotyped behaviour which markedly declined on the fourth day after implantation. The decrease of motor stereotypies was much slower in rats implanted with minipumps releasing a combination of amphetamine and scopolamine. The release of the content of minipumps ended 7 days after. Two days after the cessation of discharge of osmotic minipumps the animals were injected with apomorphine. Stereotyped behaviour was scored in both experimental groups and in control rats as well which have been, previously implanted with physiological saline-loaded minipumps. In amphetamine pretreated animals the stereotyped response to apomorphine did not significantly differ from the response of the control rats. The previous enhancement of amphetamine induced behaviour by scopolamine induced changes in apomorphine-induced behaviour two days after the termination of amphetamine + scopolamine co-administration. The apomorphine-induced behaviour changed to the atypical stereotyped one. | |
