Abstract     The spread of Borrelia burgdorferi infections in northwest Croatia was investigated through a serological survey of wildlife and omestic animals. Sera were tested by inhibition ELISA. Antibodies to B. burgdorferi were found in nine of 42 roe deer sera, and three of nine hare sera. Sera of wild boars (n = 10), cattle (n = 103), and dogs n = 13) were negative antibodies to B. burgdorferi. Human sera were analvzed by indirect immunofluorescent test, and ten out of 134 serum samples were positive to B. burdorferi. We conclude that wildlife can be used as an indicator for the presence of Lyme borreliosis.
