Abstract		Costs for prescribed pharmaceuticals within the health insurance system are payed separately and in full value. The share of these expenses within all the expenditures for health care in our health care system constantly rises and already exceeds 17% of expenditures for health care. In comparison with the European Union countries and some other European countries, USA and Canada, where the share of expenditures for pharmaceuticals amounts on average to 11,4% of expenditures for health sector, we spend for pharmaceuticals proportionally more than in a series of European countries. Costs for pharmaceuticals used in hospital treatment are not considered in these data. In the financial systems of health care programmes, the costs of pharmaceuticals in hospitals are the constituent part of material costs calculated into the rate of hospital day of inpatient care and services. The project intends to demonstrate the situation of pharmaceutical consumption in hospitals in R of Slovenia regarding contents, ways of monitoring and consumption extent. The rising hospital treatment expenditures can be dealt with by an adequate assessment of pharmaceuticals consumption and use in hospitals, according to the methodology recommended by World Health Association. Prerequisite for this is the defining and unform monitoring of comparative data about hospital pharmaceuticals consumption on the base on which the measures for a rational use of pharmaceuticals and the measures for monitoring of financial means for pharmaceutical expenditures on national level and on the institutional levels and also for other decisions in health policy can be proposed. On the base of - frominquary - gathered data on pharmaceuticals use in comparable hospitals the evaluation of outgoes for pharmaceuticals in hospital use in R of Slovenia is prepared in relation with the outgoes for pharmaceuticals from the health insurance means.
