Abstract		European health Telematics projects have been focudes through the AIM and new 4th Framework Programmes (4FP). THe 4FP has seen a change from technology driven to user driven projects. The UK experience in the NHS has largely paralleled this. However lessons can be leant from the previous emphasis on implementation planning rather than the demonstration of the benefits of information systems to patient care.Recommendations on basic principles of management and assessment when implementing Informatics systems will ensure better value for money and proven benefits.
