Abstract     A new noninvasive qualitative method for testing anterior laxity of the knee is presented. Anterior displacement of the tibia is exerted by the TELOS device and detected by the 3D optical motion analysis system ELITE. The tested knee is in 15 to 20 degrees flexion, and a maximum force of 250N is applied. The method was tested in 7 asymptomatic subjects and in 14 patients (8 males and 6 females) with clinical signs of the anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency. The new method seems promising and correlates well with clinical tests. Testing on larger series of normal and injured experimental subjects will be needed for a more accurate validation of the technique.
