Abstract     As a result of improper cementing technique or initial mechanical failure crack can appear at the boundary between the cement and the prosthesis. The influence of such cracks on the cement - prosthesis interface stress distribution is considered. Finite element method is used to evaluate interface stress. Cracks are modeled in two ways: with and without joint elements. Both models give the same results: cloe to the cracks significant interface stress concentrations are present, while bone stress field is negligibly affected.
