Abstract     In the aggression against Croatia children are exposed to various forms of suffering, resulting in serious short-term and longterm psychological and physical consequences on their health and development. The children's suffering during the war appears in tragic forms: 265 killed children, 957 wounded, 5497 children lost one parent, and 74 lost both of them. The children and youth make up more than 25% of displaced people and 35% of refugees. 528 educational institutions were destroyed or damaged (128 kindergartens, 335 elemetary schools and 65 high schools and dormitories),16 institutions of social welfare, and 29 children's health institutions.
