Abstract		The authors present the international program for prevention of noncommunicable diseases - CINDI. They emphasize the importance of risk factors for the development of noncommunicable diseases and present the results of a survey performed in 1990/91 on a random sample of inhabitants of Ljubljana, males and females, age 25-64 years. A large portion of inhabitants have borderline elevated values of risk factors and a large portion of inhabitants are also living unhealthly. They stress the importance of a healthy life style as the first measure for preventing the development of risk factors and thus also of chronic noncommunicable diseases.
