Abstract     The datum on the concentration of allergenic pollens in the atmosphere as well as the onset of their appearance are very important in the diagnosis and prevention of pollinosis. The most significant allergenic plants in Slovenia are: hazel and alder in the early spring, later birch, then grasses, mugwort in the summer, ragweed in the early autumn, and Parietaria in Istria and the littoral region from early springtime to the end of autumn. Elsewhere in the world there are numerous phenologic stations, while in Slovenia one was the first only founded on October 1, 1995 within the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia. By the end of 1996, national data on the concentration of allergenic pollens will be available for the Ljubljana district. The data will be useful for physicians as well as patients. In this way experience will be gained which will be significant in communicating information through the mass media on the prognosis of blooming of allergenic plants in the following years.
