Abstract     In the study of interaction between digoxin and nicardipine we tried to establish whether the inhibition of digoxin intestinal absorption by nicardipine and its enantiomers was dose dependent. In previous studies in guinea-pig in vivo using (+-), (+), (-) nicardipine it has been found that the inhibition of digoxin intestinal absorption by nicardipine depended upon optical activity of nicardipine. In the present study the dose dependent inhibition of enteral absorption of digoxin by nicardipine and its (-) enantiomer was found. By extrapolation determined ICS50 was 0.27 mg/ml and 0.36 mg/ml (=0.027 mg/I00 g and 0.036 mg/100 g body weight) for (+-) and (-) nicardipine, respectively.
