Abstract | In caring for pediatric trauma victims, the same priorities should be followed as for adult trauma victims. Careful interpretation of pediatric vital signs needs to be done and fluid boluses and medication dosages need to be adjusted to the patient's body weight. Farly measures to prevent hypothermia and early attention to the psychologic needs of the injured child are important. The medical personnel caring for pediatric trauma victims need to be alert for child abuse as a cause for these injuries and ensure appropriate investigation as needed. Medical personnel should also become involved in trauma prevention efforts for children, as this is the best long-term solution to the pediatric trauma problem. | |
