Abstract     The fate of emergency patient often depends on immediate and correct on field management by wittnesses of the accident. Doctors sometimes meet emergency situations outside their working places, for example as traffic participants, during their sport and other free time activities etc. In these situations most of them haven't suitable communication devices and equipment for emergency medical help. There are also many doctors, which haven't enough experience and knowledge about emergency medicine, so they come into great pressure and dilemmas - how to give proper help to the emergency patient until EMS service will come. And there are remarkable organizational and qualitative differences in EMS among different regions in Slovenia. The author, otherwise member of the Mountain rescue service of Slovenia (MRS) describes the case of accidental meeting with polytraumatized woman during his climbing in Slovenian mountains. With the help of his portable USW radio he was able to organize the rescue action immediately from the site of the accident. With the emergency medical and rescue equipment from his private car he was shortly after able to manage the helicopter rescue mission and the transport of injured woman from the site of the accident to the hospital. The effectiveness of amateur organized MRS of Slovenia, which includes some trained doctors and rescue helicopters, is also described. Problems of accidental meeting of the doctor with the emergency patient are discussed. It is suggested that interested and properly educated slovenian doctors should be equipped with personal basic emergency medicine equipment. The role of emergency helicopter medical service, specially in remote places, is discussed.
