Abstract     During this study, the transversal echosonographies of their spontenously filled bladders were done for each of 297 women, separated in four groups. The convex 4 MHz abdominal probe of Conbison 320, Kretz Electronic and convex 3,5 abdominal probe Aloka 620 SSD was used. According to the originally modified method two diameters had been measured: the inner distance between the bladder walls just under the public symphysis (diameter A), and the width of the bladder base measured just above the vaginal wall (diameter B). In women with normal statics of the pelvic organs the diameter A was bigger than the diameter B, so the A/B ratio was normally over 1.00. The results of our study confirmed that conclusion. Out of 13 women of the control group A 92% had the A/B ratio over 1.00. Out of 74 continent women with PSD (77%) had the A/B diameter below 1.00 (group B). Out of 192 women with SUI and PSD (group C) 92% had the A/B ratio below 1.00. The criterion for the diagnosis of urogenital ptosis was a clinically clearly seen cystocale, according to Cruikshank and Cox. For the diagnosis of SUI, the golden standard were the Pad-test and urethral closure pressure under 35 cm of H2O after urodynamic investigation. Out of 18 women with SUI but without clinically seen PSD (D group) 83% had the A/B ratio also below 1.00. The A/B ratio in the control group of women (A) and women with PSD and/or SUI (groups B, C and D) was statistically different (p<0.001) after the difference between the proportion of two samples was calculated (z=7,83). There was no statistically significant difference after the x2 test was used on the extended medians for A/B ratio obtained in the groups C and D. The x2 test = 0.06 (p.0,1). The results obtained during the study confirmed that the SUI wass caused and for that reason accompanied by the PSD. The original and nonaggressive transversal abdominal echosonography proved the existence of the PSD (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
