Abstract     Problems in the patient-doctor and patient-society relationships in the treatment of drug addiction are presented in the paper. The society can perceive the phenomenon of drug use from a moralistic or from a pragmatic viewpoint. For doctors, a moralistic viewpoint is a majortrap which they must avoid in order to successfully treat people addicted to illicit drugs. Doctors must not succumb to stereotypical assessments about drug addicts, which are present in the society. Their attitude to this disease must be professional and their objective must be to help their patients, drug addicts. In their work, doctors must above all consider the well-being of their patients, as they are subjects in the process of treatment, and plan treatment together with them.
