Abstract     Backgraund. Bacteria Helicobacter pylori is today recognised as the main etiological cause of gaastritis, ventricular and duodenal ulcer and one of the important causes for stomach cancer and low grade MALT lymphoma. Methods. In this overview the modern knowledge about etiopathology of ventricular and duodenal ulcer is described and also brief description of different diagnostic methods and their practical applicability. The most recent guidelines from Maastricht consensus - September 1966 for therapy are presented. The advisable (relative) indications for therapy which lack sufficient objective data need to be accepted with caution for every day practice. In this overview recent recommendations for therapy are also described. Because in Slovenia we do not have clarythromicin nor bismuth drugs, the recommended therapy for Slvoenia at the moment is presented. Conclusions: Bacteria Helicobacter pylori is the main cause of ventricular and duodenal ulcer and their perpetuations. With the proper antibacterial therapy both diseases can be definitely curable for the majority of patients.
