Abstract     The aim of this article is a report of our therapeutical success of different antimicrobial treatments against Helicobacter pylori (HP) in ptients with upper GI illneses caused by HP in the period from 1990 to 1996. Methods. In this six year period we included 432 HP positive patients with duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, non-ulcer dyspepsia and maltoma. The existence of HP infection was proved with rapid urease test from antral biopsy (Yatrox Rhoem Pharma, BRD or home made rapid urease test) and at least two histological biopsies from antrum, stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE), Warthin Starry (WS) or Giemsa stain. In the period from 1990 to 1993 we took additional two biopsies from corpus (HE, WS) and one biopsy from antrum for HP culture. The eradication success was assesed at least one month after the end of antimicrobial therapy or at least one month after the end of additional PPI treatment. At the control endoscopy we took at least two biopsies from antrum (HE, Giemsa) and additional two biopsies from corpus (HE, WS) and a biopsy from antrum for HP culture in patients included inprospective trials. Results. In the period from October 1990 to April 1993 we terated HP patients with triple aantimicrobial therapy: colloidal bismuth subcitrate (CBS) 120 mg qid and amoxicillin (AMO) 375 mg tid both for 3 weeks and metronidayole (MET) 250 mg qid 2 weeks. The eradication success was 91,6%, half of the patients had side effects. In the same period we treated 55 patients with CBS 120 mg qid, AMO 500 mg qid, MET 500 mg qid for two weeks with the eradication success 94,5%. Between April 1993 and APril 1995 we treated 95 patients with dual therapy: omeprazole (OME) 20 mg qid and amoxicillin (AMO 1000 mg qid for 14 days. The eradication success was only 47,4%. We treated 20 patients with OME20 mg qid and AMO 500 qid for two weeks with the eradication success of 60%. From April 1995 until now we have treated patients with triple (abstract trimcated at 2000 characters).
