Abstract     Data collected on the base of a questionnaire sent to 56 Health Centres (HC) in Slovenia, of which 49 answered, were processed. In 22 HC in Slovenia there are 70 "higher dentitsts" (term denotes dentist with the first degree of Medical Faculty. Department for Dentistry, Maribor employed. They perform independent work on the domain of dentistry for children and youth and for adults. In these HC they occupy 28% of places for dentists (graduated on Medical Faculty, Department for Dentistry, Ljubljana). Their distribution in Slovenia shows, that the main body of "higher dentists" is employed inn the region of tajersko and that they are very rare in the region of Ljubljana. In the HCs of Maribor, Radlje ob Dravi, Slovenska Bistrica, Slovenske Konjice, Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec and Celje all "higher dentists" work also in youth dentistry. According to profesional starting-pooints this work should be performed by specialists pedodontists. Author knows from experience in HC Slovenska Bistrica that there are many difficulties when the patients wish to choose their personal dentists resp. "higher dentists". One third of dentists do not even want to sign the necessary forms for "higher dentists". In the agreement with the Institute for Helath Insurance of Slovenia (IHIS), the working obligations for "higher dentists" were reduced for 15% as their starting salary was also 15% lower. In HC of Slovenska Bistrica where there are 6 "higher dentists", this means the loss of services which would be otherwise performed by 0,90 of dentists team. So the population is essantially worse provided and lacking services are not ratified to other dentists in the Centre outside by the IHIS. Dentists are not especially rewarded for the performing of these services with the exception of one HC. In Slovenia the lack of services therefore corresponds to the services performed by 10.5 of den tist teams. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
