Abstract     In the present economic situation in Slovenia, thehealth organizations endeavour to preserve the extent of health services from the previous zears. Competition of the private sector is ever greater: It is high time therefore that all the health organizations become aware of their weaknesses and rationalise inner organiyation structure and management, analyse costs and adopt the measures for their reducing. In this way we could improve bussines situation in health organization, contribute to the rise of quality in hospitals and to a greater extent exploit the available capacities. The project "ORGANIZATION OF MAINTENANCE SERVICES IN HOSPITAL" deals with this very domain of organization structure and funcitoning of maintenance service in a hospital. In Chapter 3, the theory of organizational structures is presented and Chapter 4 deals with organizational structures of maintenance service. In our health organization - hospital - we have been engaged in the rationalisation of maintenance service organization for some years. In Chapter 5 th organization of maintenance service is given. Maintenance service was the first working unit to be exposed to the pressures of costs, rationalization and sometimes also the limitations of purchase of certain materials and inventory. In this period the conclusion was made that the organization in hospital and in maintenance service must be such that the costs could be controlled and that we could be also in command of them in the followig phase. Maintenance service must be organiyed in such a way that it ensures qualitative, functional and rational support to health workers, patients and the employed. Author has tried to present the aims and tasks of maintenance service, its organization, mechanisms of functioning, organizational and informational links between individual departments of maintenance service and remaining hospital units in a clear and comprehensive way.
