Abstract     The health of Slovenes lags behind the of Europeans. The cause for this phenomenon could searched in the undequate nutrition in Slovenia. In Europe, French have the lowest mortality due to cardiovascular diseases in spite of numerous high risk factors for the onset of these diseases. Comparing risk factors in three Fench cities and in Ljubljana, author explains this paradox with the fact that Slovenes eat very few protective substances contained in fruit, vegetables, brown bread and red wine in comparison with French.
Summary     Zdravje Slovencev zaostaja za evropskim. Vzrok za ta pojav bi lahko iskali tudi v nepravilni prehrani Slovencev. Francozi imajo najnižjo umrljivost za boleznimi srca in ožilja v Evropi kljub številnim visokim dejavnikom tveganja za nastanek teh bolezni. S primerjavo dejavnikov tveganja v treh francoskih mestih z enakimi v Ljubljani avtor razlaga ta paradoks z dejstvom, da Slovenci zaužijemo zelo malo zaščitnih snovi s sadjem, zelenjavo, črnim kruhom in rdečim vinom v primerjavi s Francozi.
