Abstract		Monitoring and policy management on the domain of drug consumption is made possible by data on drug consumption. World Health Organisation recommends to the member states to follow-up the consumption of drugs. The use of a uniform methodology is a/so advised to render possible the comparison among individual countries. Basic source of data on drug consumption are wholesalers, pharmacies (public, hospital), health insurance companies and medical documentation. Reliability and quality of data are important. The follow-up of drug consumption going on in Slovenia on the base of the project "Automatic data processing" is shown in the article. The course and deficiencies of the present project are demonstrated. Modernisation and expansion of the project are urgently needed.
