| Abstract | Drug information system in Slovenia is being developed for three decades already. Official data on specialities are often non-coordinated from the medical and pharmaceutical point of view and nearly useless from the aspect of informatics. Within governmental bodies there was no subject in charge for the coordination and control of verified data on drugs. The problematics of information about drugs is dealt with from several viewpoints: - as professional information - as regulative information - as business material information. Drug Register of Slovenia contains only a part of data on drugs that are necessary for national information system on drugs. Available data help the physician at drug prescribing but do not suffice for a rational drug prescribing. They also do not suffice to the pharmacist for a professional counselling at drug dispensing. Physicians and pharmacists are informationally dependent from the materials which they obtain from the representatives of pharmaceutical industry and foreign literature. The newly established Agency for Medicinal Products of the Republic of Slovenia will coordinate and control the verified data concerning drugs. For an undisturbed development of drug information system in Slovenia it is necessary: - to appoint the proposers of verified data - to define the process of verification - to define the flow of verified data -to define the ways of computer data exchange on drugs. In the projects of modernisation of drug information system in Slovenia it is necessary to include the institutions which already use the existing drug information system. In the case of a non-coordinated functioning, the whole drug information system in Slovenia could come to an end or even regress. | |
