Abstract     Physician's responsibility at drug prescribing is manifold and can even become a subject of the penal law. When prescribing drugs he has to follow his basic duty, which is a considerate treating of patient. He should be professionally independent, but should nevertheless assume full responsibility for drug prescribing. Yet he could never be held responsible for irresponsible use of medicines which he prescribed if the patient deals with them arbitrarily. Prescription is a document on the base of which it is possible to check physician's decisions, if the question of his responsibility arises. Numerous guidelines and declarations of World Medical Association can help the physician when in doubts or scruples. Drug prescribing is therefore an irreplaceable task of the physician. He should perform it with all his knowledge and responsibility and with the awareness, that drug treatment presents one of the most important physician's tasks in the treatment process. He can not be deprived from this mission neither by the state nor by the patient, if the latter wanted medicines which by doctor's professional assessment could harm the patient or had no effect.
