Abstract     At a glance the Peking royal dog and the mastiff are no less different than living wild mammals from different species or even families. But despite this contrast, the two breeds belong to the same biological species. Even with domestication humans have been unable to create a mechanism which would prevent the flow of genes between breeds. Thus, to maintain them, it is necessary to control breeding, which means isolating individual animals, rearing same sex groups, and artificial insemination. Today, this is so self understood that we do not even realize it represents violence towards nature.
