Abstract | Birds are amongst the most threatened animal groups. Many organizations and individuals, professionally and voluntarily, deal with their protection. Numerous studies and analyses are the basis for list, where they are described by the degree and extent of threat. These are popularly known as Red Lists or Red Books. They also exist for many other animal and plant groups, but their tradition for birds is longest and internationally the best integrated. Bird Life international is preparing an overview of those birds with falling regional or global populations (Birds to watch). These are threatened with extinction in the foreseeable future. The corncrake is one of those species. | |
