| Abstract | | With better understanding of the mechanisms of actions of new and old cytotoxic drugs, knowledge about the originand incidence ofside effects has improved.0uraimwastofindtheanaloguesoftheold drugswith less pronounced toxic side effects. By means of preventive measures as well as some special drugs we have been able to reduce the higher grades of the most common side effects of cytotoxic drugs. New treatment modalities, especially the use of high dose chemotherapy schedules, have however increased the incidence of already known side effects, as well as generated some new, up to now not seen in standard treatment schedules.
