Abstract     This article investigates the self-image of young people of various nationalities and cultures. The theoretical part sheds light on cognitive and psychological explanations of self-image among people from Asian and Western European cultures. It explores international differences through findings made by American and British researchers. In the empirical part it studies the self-image of young Slovene and French people with different school results. It starts from the assumption that self-image depends on differences in nationality as well as school results. School results are reflected in individual differences as well as national differences among people. The results show that French study cases in general have more defined areas of self-image, especially that which relates to the area of verbal abilities, academic self-image, relationship towards peers of the same sex, etc. In contrast, the Slovene study cases have a higher self-image in the area of resolving problems and creativity.
