Abstract     In psychology the area of developing and forming values remains comparatively unexplored. The research which is described here tries to determine how groups of people of different ages judge the importance of individual values and of complex value groups. We started with the hypothesis that there are significant differences in how people of different age groups assess individual values or wider value groups. The samo;e covered four age groups (ages 15 to 22, 23 to 35, 36 to 60, and over 60), and in the measurement of values we used the measurement of values we used the Musek Value Scale. The results confirmed that age is an important element in the assessment of values and indicate that there are some statistically importtant differences in the assessment of individual values and complex value groups among the people in the four groups. In comparison with the other three groups, the youngest is most oriented towards hedonistic and status values and the values of physical relaxation. The second age group (from 23 to 35) most appreciates values of learning and friendship. The other two age groups value most highly traditional moral, patriotic and security values. Differences between the age groups are also apparent in the assessment of complex value groups (value types and macrocategories). The results in general confirm that certain shifts in values take place in the different age groups.
