Abstract		Foci of infection in the oral cavity include teeth with infected root canals, infected periapical lesions and periodontal disease. They represent a potential source for bacteremia and entigenemia. Bacteremia is dangerous for patients with certain forms of heart disease. Antigens released from infected foci may cause various diseases in patients with disturbed immune response. The task of the dentist is to detect infected foci in the oral cavity and eliminate them in different ways.
