Abstract     Backgraund. The authors report on a case of aseptic synovitis of the knee joint which developed after arthroscopic fixation of intercondylar eminence fracture with a cannulated screw and washer. Although the osteosynthetic material (OSM) they used is known to be immunologically inert, histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a foreign-body type reactive synovitis. Arthroscopic removal of OSM was followed by regression of inflammation fracture healing and return of the knee joint function to the pre-injury level. Conclusions. When using OSM for intraarticular fixation, the risk of aseptic synovitis due to foreign-body reaction should always be borne in mind.
Summary     Izhodišče.
