Abstract | The aim of this study was to establish the applicability of a portable computer-controlled freezing device, freeze control L863. Using a slow freezing technique, 290 4- and 8-cell mouse embryos were frozen in 1.5 M 1,2-propanediol. The success of the cryopreservation procedure was expressed as the percentage of thawed embryos reaching the blastocyst stage in vitro. Cryopreservation was successful for 76.9% (103 out of 134) of 4-cell embryos and 72.4% (113 out of 156) of 8-cell embryos (P<0.001). The successful slow freezing of mouse embryos with this device proves that this simple freezing device is as effective as the larger and more popular models. | |
