Abstract     In 1960, public dental care in Slovenia had approximately 335 dental therapists and each of them treated almost 6.000 patients. The introduction of health insurance for peasants made the situation even worse. Dental care was insufficient, especially denta/ care for schoolchildren and youth. Therefore, it was expected that the reform of dental highschool would soon assure more therapists. In the school year 1960/61 two different levels of study were introduced at the Department af stomathology, Medical Faculty in Ljubljana. At the first level there were six terms and the students acquired the dentist degree, while at the second level there were four more terms and the students acquired Ihe degree of stomathology All these changes contrihuted a great deal to the development of the study of stomathology in Maribor. On 24.6.1960 the Parliament of SRS passed an act to found the High School of Stomathology in Maribor: In spite of all the financial problems, the lack of personnel, teaching rooms and laboratories the school started the regular program in October 1960/61. The courses and the schedule were adjusted to those of the first level study in Ljubljana. They had lectures in the hall of Social Security building and in the hall of the Maribor General Hospital. Training was organzedl in the laboratories of the High Technical School. in the adapted building "Along the park" and in the practicurn of the provisory buildings, built for that purpose at the ground of the General Hospital. In Decemher 1964 the school moved to the new building with modern equipment for theoretic and practical study, with laboratories and clinical section. At the conference of the faculties of stomathology in Sarajevo the faclty board of the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana took a decision to close the first level stady program of stomathology. This decision indirectly led tn the closing (trunc. at 2000 chars)
