Abstract     The author describes a long, winding and steep path to the final goal - the uniformity of the study of stomatology, as well as, the academic titles in post-war Slovenia. The first Minister of Health, dr. Marij Ahčin passed the decree, that in 1945, new teaching medical institutions should be introduced. Thus, Dental Intermediate School, provisory dental schools and the Clinic of stomatology, as an integral part of the Medical faculty, were founded to train all profiles of dental practitioners. In 1950, the (independent) Faculty of stomatology was founded in Ljubljana. The faculty was independent for four years, then, in 1954 it was again incorporated in the Medical faculty, which had two departments; department of general medicine and department of general dentistry. From 1950 to 1960, the Medical faculty had a five year study program. Only the grammar school graduates and those who graduated from the intermediate dental school and passed the additional exams in physics, mathematics and Latin, were accepted to the Medical faculty - Department of stomatology. When they finished the study, they acquired the title - dr.med.dent. (doctor medicinae dentariae). In 1960, a two year and a five year program of studies were introduced at the Medical faculty in Ljubljana and the students that graduated from any of the departments were deprived of the academic title and they received only a diploma. In 1966/1967, a uniform five year study program, and the academic titles (dr.med. and dr.stom.) were again introduced, along with some changes of the syllabus and the curriculum at the Medical faculty in Ljubljana. The professors at the Clinic of stomatology with dr. Rant in particular, (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
