Abstract     Modest medical knowledge and doctors powerlessness offered unsufficient help at diseases in log centuries; therefore patients seeked help at their saints-patrons against different diseases. In the book Legenda aura from the 13th century, written by the Italian author Jakobo da Voragine, legends about all important catholic saints are described in a popular manner. A large number of church paintings and plastic arts found their origin right in this book, as well as in the biographies of single saints-martyrs, patrons in disease is originated the faith of sick people to get help from the saints like Cosmas and Damian Luke, Lucia, Agatha, Appolonia, Rock, Valentin, Sebastian, and the others. Health care has developed very much in the last century, a large nuber of diseases are prevented and cured, but in such cases where medicine is helpless, the doors are opened for alternative solutions; that is why also the tradition of saints-patrons in disease remains alive.
