Abstract		Captopril lowers blood pressure even in patients with low plasma renin activity; mechanisms other than renin inhibition may be important for the action of Captopril. We investigate the effect of Captopril on 22Na+ efflux in vitro in red blood cells from healthy males. We concluded that Captopril blocks ouabain-sensitive 22Na+ efflux and the effect of Captopril has physiologic correlates - potassium induced relaxation of smooth muscles in rat aorta is depressed.
